work record 3 ~ shoot 3

The Sky ~ Shoot 3

Plans for shoot:

my plan for this shoot is to photograph different skylines from different viewpoints within an urban landscape, London, i aim to capture different aspects of both the architecture of London and how i can manipulate landscapes using the buildings and their silhouettes to reflect the clouds of the sky. Within this shoot i also plan to use different angles to reveal certain views, for example, taking an image from high up or low down, e.g on a bridge ot riverbank.

Research influence

my shoot is influenced by many artists as i aim to mix all their styles of photography into mine, this included Stephen Shore,Edward Steichen Brian Eno, and Masahisa Fukase

Contact sheet

this shoot consisted of 21 images, taken over a period of one day and in various locations around London.

My Best images (target 4 - 6),

images that require improvement

i felt all these images were over exposed and therefore require improvement

AO3: Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to intentions, reflecting critically on work and progress.

My idea for recording the sky within this shoot was to take images of a city skyline which involved popular attractions, in this case, the London Eye. I was inspired by the work of all my researched artists by their methods of taking photos, and by what they captured within their work but with my own individuality.

With reference to my best images, I feel that although I could not create photographs exactly like my artists  photos, I did create a set that was in the style of their work but with my own interpretation of the sky by using popular tourist attractions ( London Eye).

editing process(es)

my idea for this edit was to make it look like an old negative picture.

AO1: Develop ideas through sustained and focused investigations informed by contextual and other sources, demonstrating analytical and critical understanding.

(Here you will discuss how you developed your work based on your research of e.g. artists/photographers, etc).

my edits developed over time in term of my technique of editing as i started to experiment more with my images, my research of my artists helped with this progression, as within their sets of images, no two are the same, so i followed this ideology within my own work by experimenting more. as my shoots progress, i have started to become more experimental with my work in an attempt to produce unique and interesting images.

AO4: Present a personal and meaningful response that realises intentions and, where appropriate, makes connections between visual and other elements.

my final set of images were all produced in different ways and some of these processes are shown within my AO2 section.

Progression: you must refer to what you will do next to improve on either the shoot you have done or how you will develop your project in the next shoot.

my aim for the next shoot is to capture the sky at different places during a sunset by photographing different locations during a journey  gives me the opportunity to capture different landscapes.

work record 7 ~ shoot 7

The Sky ~ Shoot 7

Plans for shoot:

my plan for this shoot was to photograph rain clouds during a sunset, through the branches of trees as they show a contrast in how the sky is at different times of the day and during different weather conditions as well as up against the silhouette of tree branches.

Research influence

Masahisa Fukase
Stephen Shore
my influence for this shoot was mostly Masahisa Fukase as the
photo book Solitude of Ravens, Masahisa Fukase produced
evocative images of birds in flight against dramatic skies which is what i tried to photograph as well as Stephen Shore's colour photography of the sky

Contact sheet(s)

All images were taken on a Nikon D3300

Images with a cross through them require improvement.

for these images i aimed to emphasise the branches of the trees in order for them to act as a silhouette against the sky

i felt this image was too dark

this image didn't have the correct focus point and so focused on

in my next shoot i hope to experiment more when it comes to viewpoints by either using mirrors, puddles or glass.
