word record one ~ shoot one

The Sky ~ Shoot 1

Plans for shoot:
my plan for this shoot is to photograph different skylines from different viewpoints and at different times of the day, therefore my images would vary in colour and lightness when raw.
Research influence

My influence for this set of images was Edward Steichen's style of photography, in terms of cloudscape photography, this meant that i had to photograph moderately cloudy days, yet instead of black and white images, i aspire to leave my images in colour as the amount of colour helps add more depth to my images.

Contact sheet

this shoot consisted of 25 images, taken over a period of a couple of days and in various locations and different time of day, varying from 7:00 in the morning to past midnight.

My Best images (target 4 - 6),
when editing these images i aimed to accentuation the colours of the sky and its surroundings, to do this i would alter the brightness, contrast and in some occasions the hue of the images.

Images that require improvement
i felt this image was too dark due to the time of night that it was taken, which caused my image to look grainy

this image was zoomed in so much that it was grainy and blurred

this image was purely too dark due to the time of day that it was taken

AO3: Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to intentions, reflecting critically on work and progress.
My idea for recording the sky was to take images simular to Steichen's  cloud series, and to focus on creating my own interperetations of his work. I was inspired by the work of Steichen by his method of taking photos, and by what he captured within some of  his photos with the use of colour

With reference to my best images, I feel that although I could not create photographs exactly like Steichen's  photos, I did create a set that was in the style of his work but with more colour as i felt that using black and white didn't enhance my images. I am happy with the overall outcome of my images and feel that they all show the many ways that cloud formations can be captured.
AO2Explore and select appropriate resources, media, materials, techniques and processes, reviewing and refining ideas as work develops.
All images were taken on an iPhone 8, this is because they were all spur of the moment images in order to capture the clouds

AO1: Develop ideas through sustained and focused investigations informed by contextual and other sources, demonstrating analytical and critical understanding.

(Here you will discuss how you developed your work based on your research of e.g. artists/photographers, etc).

The artist research was very useful during these shoots as I had some inspiration on how to capturing and refining skylines and clouds. My research of Steichen's work helped me to focus on the details of the cloud formations. This helped me produce my images as i knew what i was trying to capture, in this case ideally it was different types of clouds.

AO4: Present a personal and meaningful response that realises intentions and, where appropriate, makes connections between visual and other elements.

i believe that i have produced a well refined set of images inspired by Steichens work but with my own personality added to it, the final images below were edited by altering the curves, levels, gamma correction, exposure, brightness, contrast, hue and saturation.

Progression: you must refer to what you will do next to improve on either the shoot you have done or how you will develop your project in the next shoot.
i aim to experiment more with the angles that i take my images in and to use different viewpoints and framing
